The consultant listed the source of the map as: "1899 Treasury Department Topographic Map Surveyed by J.J. Gilbert." Maybe it's just Friday, but I couldn't find the original while he was here and was hoping that someone else might have some suggestions or clues. I've tried the Serial Set, NOAA's historic chart web site, etc. From the appearance of the copy, it looks very similar to the old Coast and Geodetic Survey charts (the copy includes contours).
