SEAL is located on the main campus of Temple, a vibrant, urban research university with over 1,700 full-time faculty and a student body of 36,000 that was recently ranked most diverse in the nation. The librarian will provide high-level research and instructional services to students and faculty in the sciences, engineering and architecture and serve as coordinator of SEAL’s instructional program and its integration into the Libraries’ information literacy initiative. Reporting to the head of SEAL, the individual will plan, coordinate, and evaluate SEAL’s instruction and information literacy initiatives in consultation with other teaching librarians and a library instruction coordinator; work collaboratively with faculty to assist with research and with designing effective library research assignments; produce web-based research guides and tutorials; and serve as liaison to three or more science departments. The individual will select materials in print and electronic format, and provide instruction and a full range of multi-disciplinary reference and consultative services in the library, virtually, and in some academic departments. The librarian will participate in library-wide projects and activities and is expected to be active professionally. The librarian may supervise student assistants or other staff, and will participate as scheduled in shared evening and weekend service hours. Requires an ALA-accredited MLS and a minimum of 3 years of post-MLS experience providing science reference and instructional services in an academic setting. Experience in developing and delivering instruction programs and in developing and managing science-related collections in all formats is also required. Strongly prefer an undergraduate chemistry or other science/engineering degree and/or relevant experience in one of the science disciplines.
