RESPONSIBILITIES: The Government Documents & Maps Librarian manages the daily operations and services of the Government Documents & Maps Unit. Establishes unit goals and priorities. Supervises two staff members. Oversees the acquisition and processing of federal documents in multiple formats including ongoing retrospective conversion projects. Evaluates and develops the documents and map collections. Promotes government information and provides instruction and outreach programs for the University and community users. Provides in-depth reference and research assistance. Represents the Library at professional meetings related to federal government information. Participates in the Library's instruction program (faculty-requested instruction sessions, credit courses, and instructional workshops). As a member of the library faculty, this position is responsible for achievement in librarianship, research and creative activity, and service. This position reports to the Head of the Reference & Research Services Department. QUALIFICATIONS: Required: MLS from an ALA-accredited program at time of hire. At least two years recent and direct working experience with federal government information. Experience providing reference service for government information, including maps. Knowledge of current issues and practices in processing and cataloging federal government publications. Knowledge of the United States Federal Depository Library Program and depository library standards. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Demonstrated commitment to providing high quality public service. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and adapt to change. Preferred: Knowledge of emerging technologies in libraries and their applications for government information resources and services. Experience with spatial and numeric data services, particularly GIS. Teaching or training experience in a classroom setting. Supervisory experience.
