Mr. <[log in to unmask]> To: Maps, Air Photo & Geospatial Systems Forum <[log in to unmask]> A quick search of Google on "scframers" shows someone selling maps under this name in eBay. They are listed in the Antiques section, most seem to be 19th century. There are pages from an A.C. Black atlas (United States, Mexico, among others), and an 1891 atlas of the Civil War. Various others from early and late 19th century. Dear Friends, It appears Gilbert Bland is stealing maps again. There is someone based in Maryland who is moving covertly about the east coast selling relatively low end maps from government publications via email under the name scframers. A dealer in Colorado got suspicious and did some background checking and has concluded that it is almost certainly Gil Bland. He is masked behind a series of aliases, wrong phone numbers and similar barriers to the discovery of his identity, but the case is fairly compelling: 1. Same type of material--primarly low priced government report type material, but periodically better material. 2. Working the east coast, but based in Maryland 3. Also pursuing Scripophily (hope I spelled that right!). 4. Mail order type operation. 5. At least one deep search caused an even more direct connection to Bland's prior business name. Not sure what the best approach is to tracking this down, but he's using the mail, shipping interstate, so its a Federal offense. -- Barry Lawrence Ruderman Antique Maps Inc. 1298 Prospect, Suite 2C La Jolla, CA 92037 (858) 551-8500 (858) 551-8593 (fax) [log in to unmask] www.raremaps.com
