"Mysterious Mapmakers: Exploring the Impossibly Accurate 16th-Century Maps of Antarctica and Greenland" New York Map Society member Les Trager will discuss maps published in the 16th century that clearly show Antarctica and Greenland. Yet no known explorer had reached either place at that time. Les will try to answer a few intriguing questions: From what maps did the early cartographers copy? Who made the surveys in the first place? Business Meeting: January's business meeting is particularly important, since we'll hold our annual election for Society officers, plus take a vote on a dues increase. Please remember that only members whose dues are up to date may particpate in the election and dues vote. So make your vote count -- if you haven't renewed your membership yet, take advantage of the current ($20.00) rate. Bring your check to the meeting, made it out to the New York Map Society, and then place your vote. ----- End forwarded message -----
