-------- Original Message -------- Subject: SV: Adding geographic coordinates to authority records Date: Fri, 7 Mar 2008 16:27:07 +0100 From: Göran Bäärnhielm <[log in to unmask]> To: Maps, Air Photo & Geospatial Systems Forum <[log in to unmask]> We don't do this ourselves, but they do in France, as I was told by Pierre-Yves Duchemin of the BNF around 1995. But we are normally interested in the limiting coordinates of an individual map, so we don't find it very useful, except in those rare cases when the limits of the map are also the limits of a specific region. I am interested in hearing from any libraries that have already begun to add geographic coordinates to authority records in order to find out what your experiences have been, and in particular, whether you were able to use automated processes to add this data. Any information or advice would be gratefully received. Carol Hamilton Collection Management Division National Library of Australia [log in to unmask]
