-------- Original Message -------- Subject: artists and Gov mapping Date: jan 9 2009 From: Russell Guy at omnimap> To: Maps-L Has anyone mentioned Thomas Moran's work for the Hayden Yellowstone survey? I saw Hayden's name in relation to Jackson the photographer, but I've not see Moran. I like this thread. Its nice to see some recognition given to these pioneers of geologic/geographic exploration. It still amazes me how, in 9 months from the date of his return from Yellowstone, Hayden had organized and examined all of the expedition's samples, written up all of their observations, and submitted to Congress a full, published USGS report, with map. It would take five years to do that today.
