I can't answer deeper at present, but the A, C, E, etc. letters in the SuDoc no. pertain to a grid that is laid out. If you see an index to these, you will see that the grid starts with a larger set of "blocks" with the letters repeating within each block. As long as you have an established SuDoc no. for your map, you don't need to worry. If you don't have, and can't find the full number and need to determine it, then you will need to look at the map, along with the grid (which is the best way) to derive the correct letter to use (as well as the following number, e.g, A 1, C 3). If I have a chance, I will add more details and explanation. I did dozens of maps from various series and set up the grids to make this easier to determine each time. David J.
