-------- Original Message -------- Subject: 2010 Cartographic Calendars Featuring Maps of the District of Columbia (1887-1909) Date: Tue, 15 Dec 2009 10:52:46 -0500 From: Nikolas R. Schiller <[log in to unmask]> To: [log in to unmask] If you were planning on obtaining a 2010 Cartographic Calendar before December 24th, the calendar needs to be ordered this week. Also, if you are unsure of what the maps in calendar look like when printed out, I made a short YouTube video showing the Color Edition: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SUJyH0uUs4o These unique cartographic calendars will be available until January 31st, 2010 and after that date there will be no more printed. ========////======== Previously: I would like to share with you some of the maps that I've recently found that were published in the newspapers of the District of Columbia between 1887 and 1909. The Chronicling America newspaper collection, a joint project of the Library of Congress and the Nation Endowment For The Humanities, has over a million scanned pages of newsprint and is a treasure trove of cartographic ephemera. After literally viewing over 2010 pages (seriously) of search results, I have produced two 17" x 11" wall calendars that feature 12 of my favorite maps that I've found. I've also placed scaled-down versions of these unique maps on my website (links below) and included the permalinks to the original news pages so that you can use these public domain maps for your own research, exploration, and enjoyment.
