-------- Original Message -------- Subject: Art and Cartography exhibition - University of Alberta Date: Wed, 4 Aug 2010 09:45:16 -0600 From: Jones, David (Library) <[log in to unmask]> To: <[log in to unmask]>, <[log in to unmask]> [please excuse any cross-posting] The William C Wonders Map Collection, University of Alberta Libraries has mounted an exhibit of current art and cartography. This exhibit â /Journeys beyond the neatline: expanding the boundaries of cartography /â presents 25 works of two University of Alberta affiliated artist/cartographers who have documented their personal journeys through text and maps. The title of the exhibit â /Journeys beyond the neatline /â reflects their personal journeys beyond the traditional boundaries of the printed map â the neatline. Both have made pilgrimages which traverse terrain and individual experience. But beyond that, theirs are unique experiences recorded in text and visual expressions as maps. Like the works themselves, this exhibition, exemplifying a growing intersection of art and cartography, also represents a step beyond the traditional map exhibit for the William C. Wonders Map Collection. The exhibit catalogue */Journeys beyond the neatline: expanding the boundaries of cartography/*, containing images of all the works, has been uniquely designed in that the catalogue is one physical item which contains the works and essays of both artist cartographers arranged in a flip book format. http://exhibits.library.ualberta.ca/maps/catalogueOrders.html The exhibit runs until the end of August on the Main Floor, Cameron Library, University of Alberta, Edmonton, Alberta Exhibit information, artistsâ biographies, contact and catalogue purchase information can be found at the exhibit website. http://exhibits.library.ualberta.ca/maps/ Please take a look and enjoy Cheers David David L.
