Cartographic materials are cataloged according to the latest national standards for descriptive content and punctuation, including: Anglo-American Cataloguing Rules and Cartographic Materials: a Manual of Interpretation for AACR2. To demonstrate what is involved in cataloging maps, one must understand the need for providing spatial data as the basis for geographic information retrieval.
