GIS Environmental Studies Librarian
The University of Manitoba Libraries seeks a dynamic, highly-motivated
person for the position of GIS Environmental Studies Librarian at a
Assistant/Associate Librarian rank to begin February 1, 2011, or as soon as
possible thereafter.  This position normally has a two year probationary
period and the salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:

  a.. A Master's degree in library and/or information studies from an ALA
accredited or equivalent institution;
  b.. Ability to manage a complex workload in a timely, effective manner;
  c.. Knowledge and understanding of best practices, current issues, and
trends in academic libraries;
  d.. Effective oral and written communication skills;
  e.. Knowledge of and expertise in the use of GIS software packages,
geospatial technologies and data;
  f.. Demonstrated interest in the use of new technologies and their
applications in academic libraries.
Candidates with the following qualifications will be preferred:

  a.. At least 2 years' professional library experience;
  b.. An undergraduate or graduate degree in a related field;
  c.. Experience in the areas of reference and research service,
information
literacy and collection management;
  d.. Experience in web authoring and web 2.0 technologies.
Reporting to the Head of Reference Services, the GIS Environmental Studies
Librarian is responsible for developing and delivering digital library
services, developing and maintaining an understanding of the research and
teaching programs of the Clayton H. Riddell Faculty of Environment, Earth,
and Resources and, on the basis of that understanding, plan for the future
development of collections and services.  A more detailed position
