They cleverly incorporated braces between the stacks by having them appear as arches -- an added attractive architectural element. Recently retired library director Judy Triplehorn was in charge of the design effort for those in earthquake prone zones who may wish to consult on the matter. Dawn Youngblood, PhD Curator, Edwin J. Perhaps when building libraries in earthquake zones they need to put (liftable?) railings across the front of each shelf, like on yachts?
