Mr. <[log in to unmask]> To: Maps, Air Photo, GIS Forum - Map Librarianship <[log in to unmask]> This is an interesting map in several ways. The blog entry with this map notes that it is focused not on topography of the earth, but on Facebook friend connections. The interesting thing is that the map data points correlate very well to those of a population density map. And in the areas of most dense point accumulation, such as Eastern US, a few notable topographical features become apparent. Among these in Eastern US are Lakes Erie and Ontario, the Adirondacks of northern New York, and the Smokies and vicinity in the southern Appalachians. The device of mapping of friendship pairs displays hypothetical network pathways, as well. Hypothetical because the links are, I presume, between pairs of friends in aggregate, while the network pathways may follow different routing.
