The library houses collections in all aspects of the earth sciences and map and geospatial data collections. Duties include general and specialized reference, bibliographic instruction in person and online, and website maintenance and design. Additional responsibilities may include collection development and a special project for the duration of the temporary assignment. This position holds the rank of lecturer and reports to the acting faculty director of the Earth Sciences and Map Library for the first six months and for the remaining six months, in the absence of the acting faculty director, to the Associate Director for Public Services. Responsibilities: 1. Provides reference services for the earth sciences and the map library collections. Instructs library users in the use of the collections and electronic databases. 2. Provides bibliographic instruction to faculty and students and other patrons ranging from general introductions to library resources to discipline-specific instruction using complex library resources. Provides instruction in the library, the classroom, and online. 3. Acts as official library liaison to the Departments of Geological Sciences, Geography, and the Environmental Studies Program. 4. Responsible for maintaining, updating, and developing new content for Map Library website and working with Earth Sciences Library Technician III on Earth Sciences Library website. 5. Consults on stacks maintenance, preservation, library policies, and other library management issues with the acting head(s) of the Earth Sciences & Map Library. 6. Participates in a team-oriented project development environment and contributes to the continuing professional development of library personnel. 7. May assist with collection development in geology, geography, and environmental sciences and in map and GIS data collection development. May help to select appropriate products through virtual approval plan and place orders in response to collection needs or faculty requests. May assist in seeking input from teaching and research faculty at the University. 8. Additional responsibility may include a major project for the duration of the temporary assignment. Project will take into account successful applicant’s skills and may involve GIS, digitization of cartographic materials, instructional technology, or other technologies or skills. Project may involve other Earth Sciences & Map Library staff and will be conducted with direction from the acting head of the Earth Sciences and Map Library.
