Dear Mr Diaz: The President's FY 2012 Budget terminates the Statistical Abstract including all of its components. The statistical compendia branch program consists of the Statistical Abstract of the United States and its supplemental products: USA Counties, State and Metropolitan Area Data Book, County and City Data Book, State and County Quick Facts, and MapStats. Given the current budget environment , the Census Bureau made difficult choices to terminate and reduce a number of existing programs in order to acquire funds for higher priority programs. Final decisions about the FY 2012 budget are the responsibility of the Congress Sincerely, Ian O'Brien Branch Chief, Statistical Compendia Branch, ACSD US Census Bureau 301-763-7057 From: "Diaz, Carlos" <[log in to unmask]> To: <[log in to unmask]> Date: 03/11/2011 01:05 PM Subject: Statistical Abstract of the U.S. Discontinued? Dear U.S. Census Bureau, I have been hearing through the grapevine that there is a possibility of discontinuing the Statistical Abstract of the United States? Is that so? Please don’t make this very valuable reference title disappear. It is a mainstay of reference information that needs to continue. The title packs a punch and is really easy to use. One of the very few titles that the government makes that works well. I appreciate any help you can give me. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ,-~~-.___. / | ' \ "The needs of the many outweigh the needs of ( ) 0 the few or the one." \_/-, ,----' ==== // Mr. Spock / \-'~; /~~~(O) Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan / __/~| / | =( _____| (_________| Carlos A.
