-------- Original Message -------- Subject: protecting checked out maps Date: Fri, 13 May 2011 08:04:15 -0700 From: Toni Whitley <[log in to unmask]> To: <[log in to unmask]> Good Morning Mapsters, I am seeking suggestions from other institutions on how they package and protect maps that are checked out of the library. We allow our maps to be briefly circulated to faculty and students to use for presentations or for duplication. As a result, our maps are showing wear and tear, I think because they are not being properly removed and replaced in the cardboard tubes we are currently using. We have come up with a few ideas: purchasing some sort of portfolio to hold the map, purchasing large diameter tubes (8” or larger), enclosing the map in an open-ended mylar sleeve before rolling it into the tube, enclosing a sheet of instructions on how to properly treat the map, etc. Can you share with us any other ideas and procedures that seem to work for you?
