-------- Original Message -------- Subject: New Normal Temperature Maps Date: Tue, 28 Jun 2011 11:40:20 -0500 (CDT) From: Linda R Zellmer <[log in to unmask]> To: Maps-L <[log in to unmask]> Hello, I monitor several blogs and RSS feeds. Today, there is an item from Dan Satterfield's weather blog (in the AGU Blogosphere) which includes temperature maps of interest: "A big piece of news came from the NOAA Nat. Climate Data Center, who had an update on the new normals that will be released starting July first. You have likely seen on TV weather reports the normal high or low for the day and how the rainfall for the month compares to the average. Those averages are recalculated once every ten years using data from the previous 30 years. This is the standard set by the World Meteorological Org. and is used almost world-wide." The full post (with maps showing the difference between the old normal temperatures and the new normal temperatures) is available at: http://blogs.agu.org/wildwildscience/2011/06/27/the-new-normal-and-yes-its-hotter/ Linda Zellmer -- Linda Zellmer Government Information & Data Services Librarian 415 Malpass Library Macomb, IL 61455 [log in to unmask] Phone: 309-298-2723 Fax: 309-298-2791
