We retain all road maps for our state, every 5 years for surrounding states, and every 10 years for other states. They don't get much use, but I anticipate they will become more valuable as the years pass and researchers want to study migration, travel, spread of disease, etc. and they can't find the old maps online. I even recall using old road maps to help a novelist determine the route that her character could have traveled across country in the 1950's. ********************************** Gwen Curtis University of Kentucky Libraries Science Library Map Collection 410C King Library Addition Lexington, KY 40506-0039 Phone: (859) 257-1853 Email: [log in to unmask] Fax: (859) 323-3225 -----Original Message----- From: Maps, Air Photo, GIS Forum - Map Librarianship [mailto:[log in to unmask]] On Behalf Of Angie Cope Sent: Wednesday, June 01, 2011 9:26 AM To: [log in to unmask] Subject: Maps in Your Collection -------- Original Message -------- Subject: Maps in Your Collection Date: Tue, 31 May 2011 14:34:28 -0700 From: Diaz, Carlos <[log in to unmask]> To: <[log in to unmask]> One of the types of maps that we have collected over the years are AAA maps, National Geographic maps, state maps published by the state, bike maps. I was wondering how many of you collect these types of maps. Do they get circulated a lot? Do you see any value on having them and retaining them? Do you catalog them and add them to your online catalog? Any help you can give me would be most appreciated. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ,-~~-.___. / | ' \ "The needs of the many outweigh the needs of ( ) 0 the few or the one." \_/-, ,----' ==== // Mr. Spock / \-'~; /~~~(O) Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan / __/~| / | =( _____| (_________| Carlos A.
