-------- Original Message -------- Subject: RE: German Army 1:200 k map of Barcelona environs, 1943 Date: Wed, 19 Oct 2011 15:49:01 +0100 From: Francis Herbert <[log in to unmask]> To: 'A forum for issues related to map & spatial data librarianship' <[log in to unmask]> CC: 'Angie Cope, American Geographical Society Library, UW Milwaukee' <[log in to unmask]> Chris (et al. - including 'MAPS-L' list), When he is able to you will be informed, by David McNeill (Map Librarian) or a Collections assistant, that your requested sheet has been retrieved from RGS-IBG Map Collection. The RGS-IBG Map Collection's pressmark of 'Europe Div. 270' contains 53 untrimmed and undamaged sheets covering the Iberian Peninsula (& The Balearics) - titled and/or punctuated variously as 'Frankreich' ; 'Portugal' ; 'Spanien' ; 'Spanien/Frankreich' ; 'Spanien Portugal' ; 'Spanien/Portugal' ; and 'Spanien - Portugal'. Glorious pickings, here, for a cataloguer (sorry: 'Cartographic metadata recorder/inputter'). All these are 'Ausgabe Nr. 1' save for sheets 'K30 NO2 Pau' ('Nr. 2') and - lacking edn statement - 'Jot29 NO2 Caceres' & 'Jot31 NW2 Palma'. Printing dates vary between I.1943 - X.1943 and XII.1943; NLS copy, too, is dated 'K31 SW2 Barcelona' VII.1943 (?). I write that RGS-IBG set is "untrimmed": very occasionally some of the outer edges exclude portions of the full 'Ziehkante' and/or 'Greiferkante' areas; but all the usual marginalia are present. This might open up possibilities for other collections to fill in their missing bits (unless/until the whole series is scanned . . .). We'd be interested to hear from anyone out there with a copy of the Deutsche Heereskarte, 1:200 000, 1st edition, 1943, K31 SW 2: Barcelona. Our copy is torn and sadly missing an upper left hand side diagonal wedge, and we'd be keen to receive (and happy to pay for) a scan of this small section or the sheet.
