The Library is embarking on an e-research program of services that build upon a dynamic new clustering of the sciences libraries into two administrative units: 1) Agricultural, Environmental Sciences, Physical Sciences, and Engineering, 2) Health and Life Sciences. Scope: The Agricultural, Environmental, and Physical Sciences and Engineering Libraries at the University of California, Davis serve the faculty, staff, and students in the academic programs based primarily in the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, the College of Letters and Science Division of Mathematical and Physical Sciences, the College of Engineering, and the College of Biological Sciences. The successful candidate would join the team working with the agricultural and environmental sciences ( http://www.lib.ucdavis.edu/dept/bioag/ ) collections, serving a large number of academic disciplines, which are among the country's most comprehensive, and include world-class collections in Bee Biology, Nematology, and Viticulture & Enology. This position reports to the Head of the Agricultural, Environmental, and Physical Science and Engineering Libraries. Staffing for the unit currently consists of 8 FTE librarians, 4.5 FTE library assistants, and 2 FTE student assistants. Responsibilities: The Agricultural and Environmental Sciences Librarian delivers client-focused, innovative services that support the information needs of faculty, staff, and students in a strongly interdisciplinary science-intensive academic research campus. Working collaboratively with University of California librarians, UC Davis faculty, staff, and students, curate collections and contribute to the high quality service, instruction, and outreach efforts of the UC Davis University Library staffs. Responsibility for outreach and collection management for assigned science disciplines is dependent on the expertise and experience of the successful candidate. The incumbent cultivates and sustains effective working relationships with faculty and graduate students; develops and maintains an understanding of relevant research and teaching programs within the sections and departments in assigned areas; is conversant with current trends in e-science/e-research, open access initiativ es, academic scholarly communication, and data management/curation; collaboratively develops and implements innovative initiatives in science reference practices using relevant technologies; designs and delivers appropriate instructional sessions, including curriculum-based education programs, in assigned areas; collaboratively participates in electronic delivery of services to UC researchers, and contributes to the campus and UC-wide libraries initiatives that best serve the information needs of UC faculty, staff, and students. Required Qualifications: * Graduate degree in librarianship from an ALA-accredited institution or its equivalent. * Evidence of active interest in the sciences. * Effective oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills; excellent analytical and organizational skills. * Demonstrated ability to work independently, collaboratively, and to contribute positively to a team environment within a rapidly changing, complex, and multicultural environment. * Demonstrated initiative and flexibility in adapting to change. * Excellent computer and web skills, especially in a networked environment. Desired Qualifications: * At least one or more years of relevant library experience. * A degree or course work in plant sciences, agricultural sciences, or environmental sciences. * Experience in providing reference/public services in an agricultural or environmental sciences academic research environment. * Demonstrated outreach experience in developing working partnerships with clientele and communities. * Demonstrated understanding of the information needs of scientists and the application of information technologies to serving those populations. * Strong commitment to quality public service. * Experience with the development and delivery of discipline-specific instructional sessions using appropriate technologies. * Effective project management skills. * Experience with bibliographic management software. * Ability to perform work requiring attention to detail. * Strong bibliographic verification skills.
