My guess is supported by the Wordreference.com web site, where one user writes: "Beaupel is definitely a family name, there were 139 persons born in France with this name in the XX century, many of them in Normandie. A lot of Beaupel have been located in the XIVth century in England (mailny Devon and Bedfordshire, some in Corwall). Pel may be an ancient form for peau (latin pellis), or perhaps for poil (latin pilus)" Perhaps you could find more information in a genealogy database? Please respond either directly to her or back to the list. Thanks, Jeff Essic NCSU Libraries The following was submitted by Janice Miller ([log in to unmask] <mailto:[log in to unmask]>) on Wed Mar 21 14:34:41 2012 --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Good afternoon - I am doing some research using Sanborn maps here in Rock Hill, SC, and am coming across the street name of Beaupel Place in several different locations. When I found this, I began research to see if this was a general term used for unnamed areas of residential concentrations in a specific area and found that this term was used on a number of Sanborn maps throughout the US. Do you have any information about the use of this term? Regards, Janice Miller Historic Preservation Specialist, Rock Hill, SC
