-------- Original Message -------- Subject: Grabbling google map (et al) images out in the field Date: Wed, 23 May 2012 01:27:22 +0000 From: Weessies, Kathleen <[log in to unmask]> To: Maps, Air Photo, GIS Forum - Map Librarianship <[log in to unmask]> A colleague of mine is involved in bicycling advocacy. He wants to choose a device that has wireless and has ample storage of maps and other images so he can share maps of random places with people when he is out and about. He is trying to decide between an ipad or laptop, and he wants to be able to capture Google maps images. I've never touched an ipad, so I can't talk about their actual functionality. It seems like the better choice, it would be lighter and more portable. When you pull up a google maps image and try to print it, the satellite view doesn't go with it --- all you get is the street map. There is an app, however, that will allow you to capture the actual view --- mac2pic http://googlemapsmania.blogspot.com/2011/11/capture-google-maps-screenshot.html http://www.map2pic.com/en/ Any experience with this or other suggestions?
