-------- Original Message -------- Subject: FW: Help finding historical borders of the Balkan countries Date: Fri, 6 Jul 2012 20:35:37 +0100 From: Francis Herbert <[log in to unmask]> To: <[log in to unmask]> CC: <[log in to unmask]> The following information came to me yesterday (Thursday) from John Steegh (cf my posting to 'MAPS-L' of 2 July):- "Dear Francis, Knowing that an atlas about the history of the Balkans, with very precise maps of (changing) borders is in preparation at the Leiden based publishing company Brill, I asked the responsable editor if he could answer the question. He answered me, that it will take some more time before the atlas will be published, and that the maps will probably not have Vector information. It will just be paper (not digital) maps, although they were composed on the computer of the friend of ours that died a couple of years ago, his atlas almost being finished. Since the question came to us via you, would you be so kind to send our answer to the person who asked for it? Once the atlas is on the market, it might be of interest to this person anyhow. Warsaw, 1863-1939'), that the same (Dutch) source might be able to help regarding Bruce Obenhaus' request on 'Help finding historical borders of the Balkan countries'. See my former posting's link, where the author (Harrie Teunissen)'s 'sign-off' includes the following background info:- "//Harrie Teunissen and his partner John Steegh are ////map////-collectors from ////Leiden////in ////Holland////. Their jointly build up collection of some 8000 ////map////s and 1200 atlasses and travel guides, mostly from 1750 - 1950, focuses on water management, city development, ethnic relations and military conflicts. They organise exhibitions based on this collection, like 'The Balkan in ////map////s, five centuries of struggle about identity' (////Leiden////////University////Library 2003)."// The 'book of the exhibition' in Leiden University Library was entitled 'Balkan in kaart : vijf eeuwen strijd om identiteit : catalogus bij een tentoonstelling in de Universiteitsbibliotheek Leiden, 4 september - 16 oktober 2003'. For fuller bibliographic details of this 167-page illustrated book + CD-ROM, see entry no. 04:56.2(138) in my 'Imago Mundi Bibliography' for 'Imago Mundi', 2004, 56(2). Sincerely Francis HerbertHon. I'd appreciate any suggestions.
