This position offers an exciting opportunity to build on past and present achievements and to move the geospatial digital agenda forward for the Geospatial Centre at the University of Waterloo. Recent and ongoing digital projects include: * a growing collection of historical air photos digitized and georeferenced (http://www.lib.uwaterloo.ca/locations/umd/project/) * the creation of a digital historical street network for the Region of Waterloo (http://www.lib.uwaterloo.ca/locations/umd/streets/index.html) * A growing collection of historical maps digitized and georeferenced (http://www.lib.uwaterloo.ca/locations/umd/digital/historicmaps.html) As the campus hub for geospatial data, the Centre offers over one terabyte of GIS data files to meet the teaching and research needs of University of Waterloo faculty, students and staff. The Geospatial Centre offers cartographic material in both print and digital format. There are approximately 20,000 maps in the printed map collection, ranging in geographical extent from maps of the City of Waterloo to maps of the world. The Geospatial Centre has a collection of 55,000 aerial photographs for various parts of southwestern Ontario and has 500 atlases for Canada and for foreign countries around the world. The incumbent will be working with a team to provide cartographic and GIS information services to the campus community. This will include disseminating the Centre’s collection to campus users; providing expertise in collecting and using GIS data; teaching and instructing on using various GIS software programs; developing and leading digital projects. The University of Waterloo Library is a member of the Canadian Association of Research Libraries (CARL), the Association of Research Libraries (ARL), the Coalition for Networked Information (CNI), and the Ontario Council of University Libraries (OCUL). The Library is a member of the Tri-University Group (TUG), along with member libraries at the University of Guelph and Wilfrid Laurier University, serving a combined student population of over 76,000, combined holdings exceeding 5 million, and combined budgets exceeding $45 million.
