IU
has some of these for Indiana from the National Archives on
microfilm, actually they are not maps but descriptions but
usually quite useful:Â T1224 Descriptions of Census
Enumeration Districts 1830-1890 and 1910-1950. The finding
aid is at:Â

Censuses of the U.S. 1900-1940 and M1930 Enumeration
District maps for the 15th Census of the U.S.

Hi
all,
I seem to remember from looking into this that the
census bureau did not publish enumeration district maps
until some time into the 1900's. The enumeration
districts were created at the local level and local
offices hand-drew maps. If they exxist for 1880, the
only copy may be at NARA.

I don't think they did
population maps in 1880 in that manner.
The 1880 Census did produce some maps but it was
for the Forest Trees of North America volume and
the Mortality & Vital Statistics volume.

However, the 1890 Census did
produce a statistical atlas (one of my favorite
publications) that covered 100 years of
information (1890 was the centennial census).
After begging for years, the Census finally
updated that atlas for the 2000 Census which give
you data from 1890 - 2000.

However,I don't think they
published anything in 1880 at the district level
like they do now.

I’ve had a reference question about whether we
have any “maps of the
1880 Census enumeration districts for the state of
Utah.â€ï¿½
It doesn’t
appear so, but I wonder how detailed any census
maps were back then.
Did the census produce (and distribute) such maps
that would be
available somewhere?
Alternatively, has anyone in more recent times
managed to reconstruct such a map for GIS
purposes?
