New release of British
Library maps online via BL Georeferencer http://maps.bl.uk
Last week, nearly
2,800
maps were posted
online and are available for
georeferencing. Two collections were included:
British
+ Irish towns: fire insurance plans - ~2500 maps
The Chas E Goad Ltd fire
insurance plans of British and Irish towns and
cities provide
unique information not found elsewhere about land
use, buildings and the urban landscape in the late
19c-e 20thc. These
are invaluable for geneaologists and local
historians.

Military maps: World War I
and US Civil War -
~225 maps
Curator selections for
two themes of military mapping:Â over 100Â WWI-era
maps include trench maps, campaign charts,
and social and ethnographic mapping. Maps related to
Britain's role in the American
