To those with whom I have been in touch
about the Cahill-Keyes world map:
After many months, Duncan Webb has just
launched his
Indiegogo campaign -- a crowd-sourced
funding vehicle -- to raise the funds needed for a
high-quality press run of his 5' (1.56m) wall-size version of
the Cahill-Keyes world map (see reduced attachment, which
supersedes earlier rough drafts).
The price is to be $79 US, including
S&H in a big tube. The Internet and Indiegogo provide a
method of outflanking stultified conventional map designs, but
will require word of mouth and forwarding and linking by those
who are interested. Or, as Duncan puts it, a little more
straightforwardly than me:
"You
are map enthusiasts passionate about beautiful accurate useful
tools. I know this is one of those. Map publishers don't
publish new maps because they don't make money. I'd love to
see crowdfunding become a way to get around that problem. But
it only will if those with passion get behind this to spread
the news. So please tell your friends about this. Your word of
mouth networks can make this happen."
Meanwhile, two descriptions of my
mapwork have appeared this week: an article on Wired.com by
Nick Stockton;
and an elaboration here, by Wesley
Fenlon, on the MythBusters site:
Best regards,
