Hi Naomi,
Thank
you for your inquiry. Subject cutters have been applied to
call number G9901 in many instances in the LC database and
OCLC. It seems like the instruction line “G9901 - By subject
(Table G1)” has been missing from the Classification Web. I
will add the instruction to use the table G1 under the number
G9901 in the Classification Web for clarification.

I am cataloging
several theoretical maps, with no specific geographic
location. At the end of the G schedule is G9900-G9980 for
‘Unlocalized maps’ with G9900 for ‘Theoretical maps’. By
looking at similar type records in OCLC it looks like Table
G1 has been applied leading to classification G9901 followed
by a subject number. This appears logical and useful but
using online Classification Web I cannot see the instruction
to use a table. Please can someone advise on current
practice?
Thanks for any
help
Naomi
