Last I checked, ESRI Business Analyst Online had a crime index (not the actual number of crimes, though, from what I remember) down to the block group level. If you have an ESRI site license, you might have access to BA Online through your ArcGIS Online organizational subscription.

SimplyMap has a layer called "EASI Total Crime Index" that takes data from the FBI Universal Crime Reporting Program and maps it by county. It looks like y'all might not subscribe to SimplyMap, but just in case you do... that would be an easy way to export the data as a shapefile for the state of Texas.

If your library subscribes to SimplyMap, there are several crime-related layers, including "EASI Total Crime Index" which is by county. You could export the shapefile from SimplyMap and specify that you only want the state of Texas.

The FBI Universal Crime Reporting online table construction tool could be used to assemble a table of crimes reported by all Texas county law enforcement agencies, by county by year....

Subject: Help with crime data for Texas

Hi:

I’m working with a distance GIS student who is working on a basic map of Texas (where he lives). He is looking for crime rate data by county for Texas.  I’ve tried looking around  and though I can easily find the data for each county, I can’t seem to find it compiled together for all Texas counties. I believe he wants an overall crime rate, not for specific crimes.  Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks

Chris
