Hi Lucinda,

That totally depends on what is stipulated in your tenure/promotion requirements and/or may have something to do with your job description as well.

Different institutions have different focuses and requirements, but if you're inquiring about an article or book in which only the maps included as illustrations were authored by you it might count towards the Scholarship of Research and Creative Accomplishments (as the research/publication, etc. area is called at Penn State) here but probably very lightly. If you authored the article or book AND created the maps for it, that's a whole different story. But, it truly does boil down to what the local institution requires in the circumstance of their concept of tenure.

I don't have to worry about tenure, but if you make maps for people that are then published in articles or books, wouldn't that count for tenure?

Subject: Map libraries/librarian journals

In making a case for the significance of publications for tenure, we are saying that there is a small number of journals that are specialized in this field (e.g., Journal of Map & Geography Libraries, Information Bulletin of WAML, The Bulletin of the Association of Canadian Map Libraries and Archives). In general these journals have low or no "Impact" scores or factors due to their specialized nature and audience
- go figure!

Does anyone have any other journals that can be added to this list? Also are there suggestions on ways to show that within the map librarian discipline these are the significant means of publishing results and other information articles?

Thanks and may you all have a wonderful holiday season.
