If Mark is looking for USGS topo maps, I recommend also searching for these maps in the Beta version of topoView (http://ngmdb.usgs.gov/maps/TopoView/), which is managed by USGS.  This site is undergoing a revision, and will soon be released in a mobile-device-friendly version, with new features.  When the new version of topoView is available, I'll send a note to MAPS-L…

USGS’ web site has topos dating back quite a ways. In PDF format.
15’ sheets go back 100 years in some cases.
