Subject: New additions to Cambridge Digital Library - Speed and Waterloo

Dear colleagues

Cambridge University Library is pleased to announced that images from its proof copy of John Speed's "Theatre of the Empire of Great Britaine"

(one of only 5 known copies) have been placed in Cambridge University Library's Digital Library, where much enhanced viewing is possible. See

http://cudl.lib.cam.ac.uk/view/PR-ATLAS-00002-00061-00001/1 (in the next release, the contents list will be rearranged into a slightly more helpful order!)

Some maps are slight different to the published version, and of particular note is the map of Cheshire which was completely re-engraved before publication.

Also new in the Digital Library are some images of items relating to the Battle of Waterloo in 1815, including maps and plans issued to accompany William Siborne’s standard work on Waterloo, "History of the war in France and Belgium, in 1815" on which, if you get the light to shine the right way, the relief is really accentuated.
