Subject: OldMapsOnline 2.0

On behalf of Klokan Technologies, I have been asked to promote the new version of OldMapsOnline.org which is being launched this week, with a new interface, new partners, a new mobile application, and new search-engine optimisation.

As many list members will know, OldMapsOnline.org is the world's largest portal for freely available, high-resolution images of historic maps, bringing together many of the world's largest online historic map collections in a single search interface. It was originally launched in 2012, with funding from JISC through the Great Britain Historical GIS Team at the University of Portsmouth, but it has steadily grown in size and functionality since then.

The OldMapsOnline website is at the same URL as before: http://www.oldmapsonline.org/

Main new features:

• OldMapsOnline now provides access to over 400,000 high-resolution images of maps – four times the number it had when launched in 2012

• OldMapsOnline now has a new mobile application ( http://www.oldmapsonline.org/mobile/  ) , making it possible to view on mobile devices with geolocation.

• The new interface allows better Google search engine retrieval, with a hierarchy of place names using Schema.org microdata and geographical landing pages

• There are new partners, including the United States Geological Survey and their historic topo quads

There is further information in the press release at: http://www.oldmapsonline.org/press/

The OldMapsOnline website is at: http://www.oldmapsonline.org/
