To me, this is more specific than “public lands,” which could simply show the extent of public lands without addressing the use or uses of those public lands. It’s kind of subtle. You might consider checking your own collection to see how other “land use” maps have been classified, besides BLM maps. I don’t think anyone could call you wrong, whichever you choose; just make sure that the classification matches the first subject heading. Just my opinion; hope it helps. I’ve been looking through OCLC and other library catalogs to see what’s there and the number varies between .G4 (Land. Land use. Land capabilities and classification), .G46 (Cadastral maps. Land ownership. Real property), and .G5 (Public lands).
