Hi everyone,

This is news to us here at the NOAA Central Library, but we're looking into it to see what the deal is. I'll post back if I can confirm or deny ;-)

The standard procedure is that all chart printing is done on an on-demand basis via certified printing agents.  These agents print the latest version of the chart requested and some can also do user-specific overlays if requested. More info here: http://www.nauticalcharts.noaa.gov/pod/index.html.

You might be able to work with these same agents for slightly older versions of current charts, although they would not meet carriage requirements. In the same vein, historical charts are kept here, and are generally public domain: https://historicalcharts.noaa.gov/

Hope this helps,
Kara

All,

Last week I was visiting a local map store and I had a discussion with one of the sales associates about the NOAA nautical charts and how it was shame that NOAA decided to stop production in print.  The sales associates commented that a representative from NOAA was in earlier in the year and mentioned that NOAA had decided to re-start the printing of a select number of charts.  Which ones she couldn’t remember.  I’m wondering if anyone else has heard about NOAA possibly restarting some of their print run for some of the charts?

Thanks,

Dennis
