Good morning!

I'd like to announce that the online version of volume 12, number 2 of the Journal of Map & Geography Libraries was published last Friday and can be found here: http://www.tandfonline.com/toc/wmgl20/current

This general issue contains articles on a variety of geospatial topics ranging from an overview of the historical map collections at the Library of Virginia with a particular focus on using MARC fields and local cataloging practices in new/unique and valuable ways along with how the collections are promoted and used from a scholarly standpoint to an in-depth look at the science and human aspects of hand-coloring maps of the early modern period. The other two articles are about long-term preservation techniques and concerns of digital historical cartographic resources and a look at funding for map libraries and their collections. The column in this issue is particularly timely -- titled "Open Access Geospatial Data -- Promise and Potential". We invite you to read and learn from our authors!

Forthcoming is a theme issue on the topic of "Education for Organization, Access, and Use of Geographic Information" that will be published in our last issue of 2016.

Sincerely,

Paige Andrew and Katherine Hart Weimer
