OCLC has now installed changes related to the OCLC-MARC Update 2016.  This update implements MARC 21 Bibliographic and Holdings format changes announced by the Library of Congress in MARC 21 Updates Number 21 (September 2015; http://www.loc.gov/marc/marc21_update21_online.html) and Number 22 (April 2016; http://www.loc.gov/marc/marc21_update22_online.html), as well as all MARC codes announced by the Library of Congress since August 2015.

In addition, OCLC has validated subfields $8 (Field Link and Sequence Number) in over 150 Bibliographic fields.  Also, Bibliographic field 305 has been made obsolete and all instances in WorldCat have been converted to field 300.  Members of the cooperative are encouraged to correct any 300 fields that might have converted incorrectly or to report them to [log in to unmask].

Details of the 2016 Update are available in in OCLC Technical Bulletin 266:  OCLC-MARC Format Update 2016 available at https://www.oclc.org/support/services/worldcat/documentation/tb/266.en.html, including:

OCLC will be incorporating the changes outlined in Technical Bulletin 266 into Bibliographic Formats and Standards (http://www.oclc.org/bibformats/en.html), OCLC Local Holdings Format and Standards (http://www.oclc.org/holdingsformat/en.html), and other documentation.  But in the meantime, please use Technical Bulletin 266 as a supplement to the other documents.

Although MARC 21 Authority Format changes are documented in Technical Bulletin 266, the Authority record changes have not been implemented at this time but have instead been deferred to a future date to be coordinated with the Library of Congress and the Name Authority Cooperative (NACO) of the Program for Cooperative Cataloging (PCC).  LC, NACO, and OCLC will make announcements at that future date.

Please forgive any duplication of this message, which is being distributed widely.
