On Friday, October 7 the website “A Land Beyond the Stars” will be world previewed at the Library of Congress in Washington D.C. The website ( http://exhibits.museogalileo.it/waldseemuller)­which will be available online on the same day­has been created by the Museo Galileo in collaboration with the Library of Congress, thanks to the generous support of the Ente Cassa di Risparmio di Firenze.

The website is the outcome of an in-depth research on the 1507 Universalis Cosmographia by Martin Waldseemüller, the oldest map of the world to display the name America, coined in honor of Florentine navigator Amerigo Vespucci. The Museo Galileo has designed this innovative website to share the countless fascinating stories embedded in Waldseemüller’s Cosmographia with a wider public and to make the map’s wealth of historical, technical, scientific, and geographic data accessible to everybody.

Venerdì 7 ottobre presso la Library of Congress, Washington D.C., verrà presentato in anteprima mondiale il sito web “Una terra oltre le stelle” realizzato dal Museo Galileo in collaborazione con la Library of Congress, con il determinante contributo di Ente Cassa di Risparmio di Firenze.

Il sito web, che sarà pubblicato online il 7 ottobre ( http://mostre.museogalileo.it/waldseemuller), rappresenta il risultato di un impegnativo lavoro di ricerca dedicato all’Universalis Cosmographia di Martin Waldseemüller del 1507, la più antica mappa del mondo in cui compare il nome America, coniato in onore di Amerigo Vespucci. Il Museo Galileo ha realizzato questo innovativo sito per comunicare al pubblico più vasto le infinite storie affascinanti contenute nella Cosmographia di Waldseemüller e per favorire la fruizione di un documento che contiene un’enorme quantità di dati storici, tecnici, scientifici e geografici.
