Sorry to be late to the party...

Berkeley falls in category 1)  Keeping all our print USGS topo maps.
We have kept all editions and revisions for all states. Currently they are all on site. We have catalog bib records (of varying quality) for each quadrangle, with different editions listed as items on the bib.

Since participating in the survey on which Cheri and Mary's paper was based we have gotten rid of our large-format plotter. Thus far it hasn't come up as an issue, but I'm interested to see how it plays out longer term.

Happy weekend,
Susan

Hi Michael,

My colleague Mary Aagard and I did a survey on this topic in June 2015 and the results were published in May in Collection Management. I don't know if the information is too dated for you, but we tried to do a comprehensive survey. The citation is:

Not sure if this will help answer you question or not --

Subject: USGS Topo map survey

Greetings,

I have seen a lot of offers of USGS topo sets on Maps-L for several years.  I was wondering if you would answer this quick question.

My library is

1)       Keeping all our print USGS topo maps.  (perhaps storing all or some off-site)

2)      Keeping only the print maps for the states (regions) that mainly interest my library's community.

3)      Withdrawing our print USGS topo map collection.

You can reply directly to me or respond to the list.
I will post the results.

Thanks.

Michael
