Hello Pam,

Just a few suggestions:

The Centre for Ecology and Hydrology make available various Land Cover datasets for this area, dating ca. 1990-2007: https://catalogue.ceh.ac.uk/eidc/documents#page=1&facet=topic|0%2FLand+cover%2F

The Geographical Publications / Dudley Stamp Land Utilisation Survey maps from the 1930s for this area can be viewed on the Vision of Britain website:
http://www.visionofbritain.org.uk/maps/series?xCenter=3209605.37908&yCenter=2918889.01987&scale=63360&viewScale=181417.4208&mapLayer=land&subLayer=lus_stamp&title=Land%20Utilisation%20Survey%20of%20Britain&download=true

For geological data, the British Geological Survey 'Geology of Britain' viewer at: http://mapapps.bgs.ac.uk/geologyofbritain/home.html? shows 1:625,000 and 1:50,000 geology as a vector overlay. 1:625,000 geological data is also available via data download http://www.bgs.ac.uk/products/digitalmaps/digmapgb_625.html. Zoomable images of geological maps at 1:63,360/1:50,000 for recent decades can also be viewed at: http://www.bgs.ac.uk/data/maps/maps.cfc?method=listResults&mapName=&series=E50k&scale=&getLatest=Y&pageSize=100&

Historic layers of Ordnance Survey georeferenced mapping for this area from the 1880s-1960s can be viewed on the National Library of Scotland website at: http://maps.nls.uk/geo/explore/#zoom=13&lat=52.4844&lon=-2.1236&layers=6. Individual sheets of historic Ordnance Survey maps from the 1840s to the 1950s can also be viewed at 1:10,560 http://maps.nls.uk/geo/find/#zoom=11&lat=52.4353&lon=-2.1433&layers=6 and 1:2,500 http://maps.nls.uk/geo/find/#zoom=11&lat=52.4353&lon=-2.1433&layers=64 for this area.

Subject: Data sets for Shortwood, Wast Hills and Netherton Tunnels in Birmingham
I have a grad student look for GIS datasets for the land use (current and historic) and stratigraphic data for the areas listed above. I suspect this might be proprietary but I'm not sure. We have books on the stratigraphy of the area and I referred her to the Perry-Castenada collection for possible maps.

Any help would be appreciated. Our library hasn't purchased any datasets and I honestly am not sure what's available..

Thanks
