The University of Alabama, Department of Geography invites applications for a full time staff position: Geospatial Services Manager.  

This position is responsible for the day to day operations of the University Map Library, a collection of maps, air photos and geospatial data, and requires management of: student employees and interns; budgets; map library reference service; collection development; and public relations.  Additional duties include enhancing the digital collection, coordinating with the Cartographic Research Laboratory for program development, and obtaining grant and contract funding to support Geospatial Services, including funding for outreach and educational programs. 

The successful applicant will be responsible for leading the development and implementation of an online graduate program in geospatial analysis and must be able to demonstrate the skills necessary to do so. This is a major support position for the Department of Geography (see geography.ua.edu). 

A Master’s degree in Geography or closely related discipline at time of appointment, and evidence of strong GIS skills is required. The University of Alabama is rapidly growing (37,665 students) and our Geographic Services Initiative is intended to support our students, staff and faculty, in particular, and the public in general. The University of Alabama has been designated a Center of Academic Excellence by the National Geospatial Intelligence Agency, and we have renovated a new geospatial analysis laboratory for research and teaching.
