Forest Service Research Data Archive

Forest Service Research and Development (FS R&D) conducts research on forest and grassland ecosystems that spans a diverse set of disciplines ranging from silviculture and hydrology to social science and wildlife management. In 2010, FS R&D created a national program for its scientists to voluntarily publish research data sets. The Forest Service Research Data Archive (Archive; https://www.fs.usda.gov/rds/archive/) has been on the web since 2011. The Archive has also provided services to the Joint Fire Science Program since 2012. In this presentation, the Archive’s program manager will discuss how the Forest Service publishes data, describe some features of the data catalog, and provide an overview of the experiment’s results.

Dave Rugg, Program Manager, Research Data Services, US Fores

Dave is a statistician and animal ecologist who has worked for the US Forest Service for the past 34 years. He has published scientific papers on a variety of topics including statistical methods for analyzing animal behavior, long-term trends in marine debris, wood turtles, and beavers. For the past 17 years, Dave’s focus has been on publishing and preserving digital research data.
