Following up on Paige's message, RDA says to "Record a projection of cartographic content if considered important for identification or selection" in 7.26.1.3. Since it doesn't say transcribe, we can expand the acronym.

My personal preference is to expand this acronym to Universal Transverse Mercator projection.

Subject: Question re: projection info in RDA

Hi all,

When cataloguing a UTM-projected map, do I follow the principle of “take what you see” or “expand acronyms” in 255 subfield b when the projection statement reads “UTM (Zone 18)”?

Thanks,

Jordan
