I'm gearing up to move our collection into temporary space next week. I have just over 240 cabinets, with the help of student employees we have labeled each cabinet and drawer using my new favorite product, Post-it Adhesive Roll (https://www.amazon.com/Post-Adhesive-Mediterranean-1-Pack-2650-P/dp/B008DF54N2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1497964907&sr=8-1&keywords=post+it+roll). Today I am going to make a spreadsheet of what is in each drawer/cabinet.

Yesterday I meet with the owner of the local company who will be moving the cabinets. We put the move out to bid twice, the first was a failed attempt so changes were made to the proposal and then resent out a second time which was successful. The winning company will have a move team of 9 on site for the entire move, 8 to do the move and 1 to supervise. For the move, each drawer will be removed from the cabinet with the maps left in. The drawers will be moved flat to the temporary space and put back into their corresponding cabinet. There will be two times where each drawer has to be tilted to fit through doorways. This process will be done again in December/January to move the maps into the newly constructed space. Looking at other's replies, we are lucky that all of this moving is taking place on one floor and we do not have to deal with elevators.

Subject: Moving map collections

Hi all,

We are moving our map collection to a different floor in our library and we're considering hiring a professional moving firm to relocate the collection. If anyone has done this I'd like to know the name of the firm, what was the experience like, would they recommend, etc.

Thanks,

Dennis
