The wider the better: both for efficiency (get more maps into each one), and for preservation (less tightly rolled is better). If the maps are at all likely to end up sitting in the tubes for a while, it's much easier to reflatten them if they were rolled to a wider diameter.

While more prone to knock damage, triagular tubes are easier to remove a tight roll from.
