About the Opportunity
Brock University Library has an exciting opportunity for a Geospatial/GIS Services Librarian. This is a 1 year limited term position from July 1, 2018 to June 30, 2019. We are seeking a team-oriented librarian who will use their communication and innovative skills to help further several initiatives currently under development in the Map, Data and GIS Library (MDGL) and the new Digital Scholarship Lab.

Reporting to the Acting Head, Map, Data and GIS Library, the successful candidate will be responsible for:
• Further developing the Library's geospatial data and map collections
• Coordinating, promoting, and delivering the GIS/geospatial data services as part of a team with other MDGL staff and the Data Librarian
• Providing instruction and assistance to students and faculty in the use of GIS/geodata sources through instructional seminars, individual consultations, in-class presentations
• Participating in the launch and activities of the Digital Scholarship Lab by offering expertise with research projects, workshops, promotion initiatives
• Creating learning objects that fosters student knowledge and participation with geospatial technologies
• Engaging in outreach initiatives for promoting the integration of geospatial technologies into the curriculum and research
• Collaborating with faculty and Liaison Librarians for implementing the use of geospatial technologies into assignment design
• Participating in exciting and innovative MDGL projects that focus on enhancing web access to collections. This includes: digitization projects, building web apps (e.g. using ArcGIS online technologies, Story Map), using the suite of Esri products.
• Working closely with the Data Librarian and other library staff on project teams and committees
• Engaging with the broader geospatial community at the local, national, and international levels to enhance the reputation of our collections and bring greater innovation
• Developing professional knowledge and skills on a continuing basis
• The incumbent may serve as a liaison to one or more academic departments

Qualifications

Qualified candidates will possess the following:
• A Master's degree from an ALA-accredited library program or its equivalent
• Proficiency working with geospatial data files and GIS, especially Esri suite of products: ArcMap; ArcPro; ArcGIS Online; web app design; Story Map technology; data visualization; other web-based mapping tools
• Strong knowledge of geospatial data resources; Scholars GeoPortal; licensed and open source; types of file formats coupled with knowledge of GIS and data applications in a range of disciplines
• Strong problem solving and technology awareness; ability and desire to learn new tools and software
• Exceptional service orientation coupled with teaching ability; demonstrated excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills; strong leadership qualities
• Ability to work effectively in both a team-based and self-directed environment
• Commitment to using relevant and/or innovative technology to enhance service
• Demonstrated research skills and experience with project management
• Demonstrated knowledge of map design and cartographic concepts
Qualifications Considered an Asset:
• Undergraduate degree in Geography or related discipline, with a concentration in geomatics
• College diploma in Geographic Information Systems Geographic Management or equivalent
• Previous experience in a university map/data library or centre; reference assistance; technical assistance
• Knowledge of developments in digital scholarship services

Compensation:
Brock University offers a competitive salary and an attractive benefits package. It is anticipated that this entry-level appointment will be made at the rank of Librarian I. Salary and rank will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. Our Library is committed to employee development. We encourage training opportunities and mentorship.
