I'm posting this on behalf of NOAA Central Library.

=====================

NOAA Central Library is looking for a home for a nearly complete run of the Journal of the Royal Geographical Society, 1835-1880 (~8 linear feet). These journals document the first half-century  of the RGS and are filled with reports of explorations--and maps, both color and b&w--of Africa, the Middle East, South and East Asia, Polar regions, etc. Think: Livingstone's search for the source of the Nile, the Great Trigonometrical Survey of India, the expedition of (and search for) John Franklin.

Random article titles from the mid-1800s:

* Report of the Proceedings of the Livingstone Congo Expedition [W. G. Grandy]
* Report of the Trans-Himalayan Explorations during 1867 [T. G. Montgomerie]
* Discoveries by the Late Expedition in Search of Sir John Franklin and His Party
[F.L. M'Clintock]
* Exploration of the Arctic Regions [Augustus Petermann]
* A Visit to Easter Island, or Rapa-Nui [J. L. Palmer]
* Report to the Secretary of the United States Navy, at Washington, of the Expedition in Search of Sir John Franklin, during the Years 1853-4-5, with a Chart, Showing the Discoveries Made in the Arctic Regions [Elisha Kent Kane]
* On the Physical Geography of the Sea, in Connection with the Antarctic Regions [Matthew Fontaine Maury]

If you know of any library or academic institution with an interest in 19th century world history, geography, exploration, and/or cartography, this is a gold mine.
