The University of Montana’s Maureen and Mike Mansfield Library invites applications from collaborative and innovative candidates for a full-time 12-month tenure-track Assistant Professor / Government Information Librarian. The position will provide leadership in the organization, use, and management of the Library’s state and federal government documents collection as well as in promoting user awareness of and access to government information at the University of Montana (UM).

The Maureen and Mike Mansfield Library is the largest library in the state of Montana with a spirit of collaboration among a variety of state and regional library partners. The Mansfield Library is a leader in the state in the use of technology to extend services and collections to the citizens and university’s global community. It is also the Regional Depository Library for Montana. On campus, the Mansfield Library is heavily used by students and researchers as a learning and social place offering opportunities for cultural and intellectual pursuits through its successful instructional programs, displays, distinctive collections and special events.
Reporting to the Head of the Information and Research Services Division, the Government Information Librarian provides leadership and coordination for the access, use, and awareness of state and federal government documents collections and services, including the Mansfield Library’s Federal Depository Library Program (FDLP). Responsibilities of the position include training and advisory communications with the 11 Montana Selective Depositories, responding to inquiries and requirements from the U.S. Government Publishing Office (GPO), and communicating with other Regionals around the country. The Government Information Librarian is responsible for FDLP outreach, public access, support services, collection development, and serves as the primary liaison to the GPO in matters related to the Library’s service as a Regional Depository Library. The Government Information Librarian consults and collaborates with scholars, participates in a dynamic instructional program, provides reference and information services for the University’s students and faculty as well as members of the community. Some evening and weekend instruction and/or reference duty is required. University of Montana faculty members contribute to faculty governance activities within the Library and the University, engage in community and professional service, and pursue an active scholarly agenda including publication and research.
