Subject: [USAIN-L] need help finding digitized historic Forest Reserve maps
To: <[log in to unmask]>

At the University of Arizona Libraries we are considering digitizing some historic maps in our collection. We have a number of print maps of “forest reserves” in Arizona from the early 1900’s (see following) and want to confirm whether or not they’ve already been digitized.

Geological Survey. Pinal Mountains Forest Reserve, Arizona. Washington, D.C.: U.S. Geological Survey. 1905. Print.

United States. Forest Service. Mt. Graham Forest Reserve, Arizona. Washington, D.C.: U.S. Forest Service ;, 1902. Print.

U.S. Surveyor General's Office. Prescott Forest Reserve of the Territory of Arizona. Tucson, Arizona: U.S. Surveyor General's Office ;, 1899. Print.

U.S. Surveyor General's Office. Map of Grand Canyon Forest Reserve. Tucson, Arizona: U.S. Surveyor General's Office ;, 1898. Print.

United States. Forest Service. Tonto Forest Reserve, Arizona. Proclamation of Oct. 3, 1905. Washington, D.C.: U.S. Forest Service ;, 1905. Print.

United States. Forest Service. Tumacacori Forest Reserve, Arizona. Gila and Salt River Meridian and Base. Washington, D.C.: U.S. Forest Service ;, 1906. Print.

United States. Forest Service. Chiricahua Forest Reserve, Arizona. Gila and Salt River Meridian and Base Line. Washington, D.C.: U.S. Forest Service ;, 1906. Print.

The Arizona Memory Project has at least one historic forest reserve map from our list but we haven’t had success in finding other collections of digital historic forest service maps that include more of the Arizona forest reserve maps. I’ve searched Library of Congress, NAL, Digital Public Library of America, USDA FS Southwestern Region, etc. Any suggestions?

I’ve been unable to really spend a lot of time on this so I may have missed something obvious. Apologies if that’s the case.

-Jeanne
